Pixadelica - The Fourth Installment

Proudly presenting our fourth installment...

Music!

Pixadelica has been really busy (and quiet) lately. Kinda like the muffled drill noises from my next door neighbors the other morning (5am to be more specific). Things are happening, you just can't see them.

We're putting on three more great bands at the Facebar 1st October. We're very much looking forward to it. Should be fun and very loud. The new flyers are ready and will be hitting the mean streets of Reading soon, if you like the art and stuff we make have a peek at the one below.

October 8th Fourth Installment of Pixadelica

Sly and the Family Drone are loud noises and inanimate percussion objects being hit very hard. Rhythm and electronics only, music at it's base primal level.

Secret Rivals are rough lo-fi punk power, fuzzy melodic riffs that make the good time indie dancing tunes.

Wonderful World of Cactapuss sound like someone nicked your gameboy in school and poured psychedelics and brightly coloured paint into the cartridge slot for a laugh, and then in some strange quantum meta-gameplay twist something actually happened and we all started living in the quantum plumbing of Super Mario. Frank Zappa doing lewd things to a Sega Master System while some washed out acid junkie teletubbie records it.

And some audience participation art making, so bring some pens and pencils!

There's a google map under the read more link if you're not sure where the Facebar is.

Black Carrot at Pixadelica Vol. 3
Written by Brendan Meachen

Black Carrot are one of my favourite bands to have played Pixadelica. Their singer with the voice like the bastard mutant son of Mike Patton and Tom Waits (as it happens their singer is actually a really nice decent human being, but it's what happens on stage that you're all interested in right?) wailing incomprehensibly to an insane surrealist Primus complete with an additional primal drum unit and haunting saxophone playing schizo jazz funk. As well as being lovely people willing to travel all the way from Coventry (and London) to play a little Pixadelica gig in Reading, they get on stage and do the tuneful art noise creating an utterly unique experience. I've heard some people left the gig because that particular experience was a bit too much, others cheered and clapped and seemed to love it. I bought three CDs which I still listen to on a regular basis, one of which is a spoken word reading of Franz Kafka's "Metamorphosis" put to their own atmospheric percussive soundtrack.

I refuse to describe this band further because I'm a crap writer and heavily caffeinated and maybe slightly drunk and it would be an injustice. I'm going to post some photo's instead, which I should have done about a month ago but I've been insanely busy with house moves and work for other people and (whisper it) a four day arts festival happening in Reading at the end of October. You're going to go listen to their myspace and maybe download (or even buy) a record or two.

We're Pixadelica, and we make zines and videos and like listening to the music you make. You can send us stuff at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , and one of us will try and get back to you. If you like video and know how to program a VCR or can plug a DVD player into a tele, you can email us  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . We have another event coming up in two weeks on 1st October, and then we're doing something a bit bigger on the other side of November. If you're not a band or musician but like making things or performing (poetry, comedy, art, illustration, photography, dance, sticking recorders in your arse and farting loudly) and want to get involved, drop us a line. We're going to play you out now with one of Reading's finest rock bands, Mark Knight and The Witches. Enjoy!

Events coming up in Reading
Written by Brendan Meachen

There's a free(!) gig at South Street tomorrow. Tomorrow being FRIDAY NIGHT! Devil Man are playing, which I'm told is a live bass and electronic dub mayhem featuring none other than the amazing electro mentalist game-console acrobatics of DJ Scotch Egg (a personal favourite of mine for a while now) and members of the quite fantastic and very noisy Drum Eyes. Reading is saturated with standard dubstep and drum n bass nights (which may not be a bad thing, but for me dub step just became a victim of its own success), if you're tired of it all and want something different go to South Street for free. Members of Hunting the Shy will also be making an appearance in the form of Toddlers, a whole new definition of drum and bass noise.

Also found this in my inbox today...

Another Evening With Dolly Dolly
Like space age pop, the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Joe Meek and eccentric 60's library music?
Yeah, me too! It's great.
That's why I've asked Seeland perform it on the 12th of September at South Street Arts Centre in sunny Reading, Berkshire.
The night is called Another Evening with Dolly Dolly. How can you miss it?
Get your tickets online here and avoid the rush.
http://www.readingarts.com/southstreet/whatson/event.asp?id=SXB2C0-A7818FF1
It's only £5 to get in.
Support comes from The Moon Wiring Club (first ever live performance) and The Time Attendant will play a live soundtrack to a Dolly Dolly short film.
If that sounds exciting, that's because it will be! Oh yes!
Come along and say 'Hello'.

You've seen the flyer, which as a designer myself makes me jealous and reminds me I need to try so much harder. I don't need to tell you it's awesome. This should be a unique event with some really interesting artists. I'll see you there.

Have some music from an act I've booked for a multi-media art event happening at the end of October.

Dolly Dolly at South Street

Dolly Dolly is at South Street on 12th September. If you're not familiar with the work of Dolly Dolly, give it a listen. It's hilarious. Short vocal samples cut up into something new and surprisingly tuneful. Besides gigs at The Tate Modern and shows on Resonance FM the there's also illustrations and short animated films. We're also a big fan of his artwork, such as the flyer below...

I'm personally looking forward to hearing some Hauntology live. If you're familiar with the beautiful atmospherics of Burial, you'll have an idea what Hauntology is about.
